"hey, there's a penny."

Why is finding a penny on the ground considered good luck?

Capitalism = Accumulating Wealth... finding just one, single penny doesn't seem so lucky in a capitalist society. Good luck would be finding a quarter, or a dollar, or heck maybe a twenty! ahh sweet; i get excited just thinking about finding a balled-up $20 on the ground. A lot of people may contend that capitalism has created a continuosly widenening gap between the rich and the poor. I hear various statistics and figures showing this gap, along with how a small percentage of the rich control a majority of the country's or world's wealth... do they, or anybody, need-deserve that type of "good luck"? I understand how hard-work can pay off in society- meaning if you work hard, then you should be honored in some way for that work... but to go back to my analogy of finding a penny: too many people are finding those twenties, and, everyday, fewer and fewer people are finding pennies.

so why is finding a penny on the ground good luck?
because a penny is just enough luck for one person.
