"...Renewable energy provides a small fraction of electricity used today, but the wind and solar sectors are the fastest growing in the U.S. In 2008, the U.S. became the world's leading provider of wind power..."
Unfortunately, T. Boone Pickens is looking foolish for failing to move forward with creating the world's largest "wind farm", which was set to start providing energy as early as 2014. The plan was for some 600-700 wind turbines (standing roughly 400 feet tall!) to be set in a giant 200,000 acre plot of land in the Texas pan-handle, with enough power to supply energy to some 1 million homes.
This is just a set back, however. The Texas billionaire has already ordered the turbines (from an American company, General Electric) and will begin looking at setting up several, smaller wind farms not only in Texas, but in parts of the midwest and southern Canada.
